How the NFL regular season works

Each NFL team plays 17 regular-season games, so most teams host only about eight or nine home games a year. With so few dates, every home game matters, and it pays to pick yours early. Browse the NFL hub to compare upcoming games, dates and stadiums.

Most games are played on Sunday, with one game on Thursday night and one on Monday night most weeks. Division games are often scheduled late in the season, when they can decide playoff spots. Kickoff times can change late in the season, so check the event listing before you make travel plans.

When prices move

Teams sell tickets first through their own primary sale, and many games then move to resale, where prices follow demand. Rivalry games, a strong opponent and a team in the playoff race can push prices up, while weaker matchups and bad weather can bring them down.

There is no single best day to buy. Compare a few games and sections, and see our When to Buy Tickets guide for how timing can affect price and availability.

Where to sit in an NFL stadium

Lower-level sideline seats between the 40-yard lines give the best all-round view of the field. End zone seats are closer to scoring plays near that end but harder for following the action at the far end. The upper deck shows plays develop across the whole field and is often the best value.

Think about sun and shade for day games, and whether the stadium is open-air or has a roof. In open-air stadiums, the weather on game day is part of the experience, so dress for it. Our Sports Seating Guide explains these trade-offs in more detail.

Game-day basics

NFL tickets are mobile tickets, so add them to your phone before you leave home and keep your phone charged. Our Ticketmaster Mobile Tickets guide explains how to find and transfer them.

NFL stadiums use a clear bag policy that limits the size and type of bag you can bring in; see our Stadium Clear Bag Policy guide. Parking passes and tailgating spaces are usually sold separately from game tickets, so check the stadium's parking options before game day.

How to buy NFL tickets on TicketsGarage

TicketsGarage is a discovery site. We show Ticketmaster and HelloTickets offers for NFL games, and checkout happens on the partner's own site. Compare the all-in price, including fees, before you pay.

Always buy through the verified checkout shown for the game, and confirm the date, opponent, section, row and delivery method on the checkout page. The seller on that page handles your order, delivery and any refund if plans change.

Thanksgiving, playoff and Super Bowl tickets

Some of the most popular games of the season fall outside a regular week. Our Thanksgiving Football Tickets guide covers the holiday games, and our NFL Playoff Tickets guide explains how playoff home games are set and when they go on sale.

For the championship game itself, see our Super Bowl Tickets guide for how tickets are sold and how to avoid fakes.
