San Francisco events this weekend & beyond

About San Francisco

San Francisco wraps a walkable peninsula in fog, hills and bay views. The ferry to Alcatraz Island is the city's signature experience, and it regularly sells out days or weeks ahead. The Golden Gate Bridge, best seen from Crissy Field or the Marin Headlands, and the historic cable cars climbing from Powell Street are equally iconic.

Fisherman's Wharf and PIER 39 draw visitors with sea lions and bay cruises, while neighborhoods like Chinatown, North Beach and the Mission each offer distinct food and character. Golden Gate Park holds the de Young Museum, the California Academy of Sciences and the Japanese Tea Garden.

Weather is famously changeable, with cool, foggy summer mornings that often burn off by afternoon, so layers are essential year-round. The compact center is walkable, and cable cars, the Muni Metro and BART make car-free travel easy.
